Earthquake in Congo

A strong earthquake hit southeastern Congo this afternoon -- a few hours after I had left for Uganda. Although there have been reports of people feeling the quake as far north as Nairobi, here in Kampala we are much closer to to the epicenter and no one appeared to feel a thing.

 

No reports yet on the extent of the damage. It depends on how densely populated that area of Congo is. From the few phone calls I've made so far, things appear to be OK, but stay tuned.
