I just had the following IM exchange with a journalist friend who, like me, has a birthday coming up. We were born about a week apart. I was pointing out that this year, his birthday falls the day after an important meeting about a job opportunity:

Shashank: could be an early bday present to you, either way
P: yeah. You're up first next month old man
Shashank: 27
P: 27
Shashank: is that officially "late 20s"?
P: too close to 30
yeah
26 is late twenties
S: 26 is mid
come on now
don't shatter my belief system
P: 5 is mid, 6 is late, 7 is oh my God why did I drink so much?
Shashank: when do i need to start worrying about my prostate?
P: immediately
